Avondale Park
The historic Avondale neighborhood dates to the early history of the City of Houston. This site has seen many changes over the decades, but this project became transformative.
With flooding and drainage on everyone’s mind, an extensive rainwater “holding” mechanism was necessary. This included large GreenBlue drainage cells under the new trees. It also included oversized subsurface piping to hold rainwater on site before moving it to the city’s storm system.
After the civil work, we built a small dog park, an exercise area and a custom constructed brick pavilion with provisions for swallows to nest. A brick promenade dissects the park and historical panels installed along the back fence tell the history of the Avondale neighborhood.
