History

Landscape Art was founded in 1978 as a one-woman maintenance company. In the 45 years since our founding, we have grown into a company of more than 100 employees, focusing on commercial landscape, irrigation, and hardscape construction.

Anita McCormick performed landscape maintenance as a way to support herself while she was an art student at University of Houston. Her “part time job” became the company, which is now Landscape Art. After recruiting her sister Dana McCormick to come work with her as well, they began to grow the company. Their work eventually caught the eye of Shell and Exxon, and Landscape Art was hired to design and install landscaping and irrigation at gas stations in Texas, Louisiana, and Tennessee. Jay Williams met Anita McCormick, and he was brought on board in 1994 and quickly became the general manager. Carmelo Orellana started in 1994 as well and has been an integral part of Landscape Art and recruiting our workforce.

Rebecca Dubiski began working at Landscape Art in 2014 as a project manager and purchaser. When Jay and Anita decided to retire, Rebecca and her husband Drew purchased the company in October of 2021 and are continuing to grow Landscape Art on the foundation set by Anita, Jay, Dana, and Carmelo.

As a General Contractor, we construct parks, playgrounds, hardscapes, streetscapes, and water features for developers, public entities, and medical/institutional facilities. With our own employees and the utilization of high-quality subcontractors, we install landscaping and irrigation systems, architectural concrete work, playgrounds and site furnishings, drainage, masonry work, electrical, and other specialty items.

Landscape Art’s reputation and work history have given us the opportunity to work on some of the most prestigious landscape projects in the area. These include The Gardens at Texas A&M University, Houston Botanic Garden, Memorial Park, Hermann Park, and Post Oak Uptown Houston. We have installed Roof Gardens at MD Anderson, some of the original experimental bio swales for Texas Parks and Wildlife, and decorative floats for the Shell Houston Open.

Our workers are employees, not contractors. By virtue of our 25-year participation in the H2B Visa program, we have a stable, legal, and experienced workforce. We have Landscape Professionals certified by TNLA and NALP. We have nine Licensed Irrigators, two Licensed Irrigation Technicians, two Backflow Prevention Assembly Testers, and ten HDPE certified installers. We have OSHA certifications and a stellar safety record that gives us an Experience Modification Rate of .74.

In 2023, Landscape Art received the Best of Show Texas Excellence in Landscaping Award with Texas Nursery and Landscape Association for Houston Botanic Garden.
