Houston Shell Open
Landscape Art started decorating for the Shell Houston Open PGA Golf Tournament in 1992. We were partners with Shell Oil and/or Houston Golf Association for 26 years.
During that span, we designed and created a number of “branding” features for Shell and HGA. It started with a replica of the Shell Pectin Logo on the 13th tee box at the TPC course in the Woodlands. A few years later, we built a circular float that included Shell logos, lots of green plants and a spray ring. The float was anchored in the pond on the 18th hole. We also created a smaller, lighted float that was placed in a pond at the Woodlands Conference Center for invited business clients.
In 2003 the tournament moved to Redstone Golf Club (later renamed Golf Club of Houston). We designed and built a stone “pectin” for the 18th tee box to be filled with flowers during tournament week. We also built a much larger float for the 18th green. The new float included three Shell logos made of live flowers (yellow chrysanthemums) showing through a specially designed sign. The float was decorated with trees and shrubs and included a larger, more powerful “water spray ring”.
Each year, we decorated the sponsor tents, the main entry, and the vendor promenade. Landscape Art was the chosen landscaper/decorator for those 26 years, which meant that each spring our creative juices were flowing. It was a challenge and an honor.
