Atascocita Area Park

When we arrived at the site, it was completely inaccessible because of the overgrown thicket of trees and shrubs.  Additionally, much of the site was saturated and soggy from poor drainage and regular flooding.  The existing pond included a resident alligator.

The design intent was to protect as much of the natural areas as possible, while making the site accessible and attractive to families.  We started by carefully cutting down selected trees and clearing underbrush.  We created new drainage systems that would make the park habitable.

The “people-friendly” portions of the site include two dog parks, a massive, modern playground, and boardwalks through and over the pond.  Trails wind through the forested areas allowing visitors to lose themselves in a native and natural setting.

Atascocita Park offers the best of both worlds…a glimpse at undisturbed nature with modern amenities for visitors and their families.
